“Another Superfast to pastures new”
In a surprise move Brittany Ferries of France have purchased the Superfast V from Greece’s Attica Holdings Euro 81.50 million ($132.127 AUD) This only leaves Superfast with three of the original 12 ships Being VI, XI & XII, but its fair to say Superfast VI will surely be sold within 12 months.
“50 years of Ro/Ro”
Thursday 24th of September marks the 50th anniversary since the princess of Tasmania first begin services across the bass strait. She was the first vessel in the southern hemisphere to be capable of cars driving on and off. She was replaced by a secession of Ro/Ro ferries including the Empress of Australia, Abel Tasman, Spirit of Tasmania and the current Spirit of Tasmania I & II. Celebrations will take place on board one of the Spirits on Thursday, followed by a special display and the Devonport maritime museum.
“Theofilos back at it”
The Theofilos (ex Abel Tasman) has finally restarted service on 16th of May after 10 months of lay-up and dry-docking. It is expected that she will now stay in Greece for some time as Nel Lines have secured subsidization for the route she is sailing. Theofilos is now 35 years old.
